101 Sleeping Positions – Position #1

101 Sleeping Positions – Position #1

I’m starting a series of sleeping positions for my sweetie 小小宝贝.

1st position : 180° 大字形. Effectively taking up half a king size bed. One leg propped up on the bolster.

He looks pretty sweet in pink. ? Looks like someone has to sleep on the floor tonight….

Sunday Morning Snapshot – Little Kitty Face

Sunday Morning Snapshot – Little Kitty Face

I could hear the pitter pattering of little feet running around my room. I half opened my eyes (totally zonked out by the baby who woke up once every hour last night) and estimated it to be around 730am.

I was expecting the usual stuff, 宝贝 would jump into my bed and play with her brother. About 15 mins passed, nothing happened, except lots of rustling sounds from my toilet. This was extremely unusual.

I called out to her and she ran…in the opposite direction – to her room!

Ok. Fishy…!

Finally she appeared and whispered in a very remorseful voice,”Mommy please help…”

She did this to her face.

“What’s that on your face?!”

My hub came into the room and explained.

“She’s been playing with your makeup. She used up a lot of tissue, trying to remove it. Then she used water. But she couldn’t remove it. When you called out to her she ran away because she was afraid that she’s going to get scolded…”

That explained all the running around and rustling sounds. =.=”

“Waaa it’s permanent! It can’t be removed for one week!”

Then tears started to pool in her eyes. “I don’t want to go out like this!! Ugly!!” She wailed!

“If I remove them for you, do you promise not to play with my makeup again?”

She tearfully nodded her head.

“No promises ok! I will try to remove it. If I can’t then you have to stay at home for a week until it’s gone!”

So I used the makeup remover. And made a big fanfare out of it. “Waaa! So hard to remove! Waaa! You are so lucky!!!! See!! It can be removed! You may not be so lucky the next time!”

She happily left the room with a clean face. My makeup is safe…. For now….

Dayre (Dairy?!)

Dayre (Dairy?!)

There’s blogging and then there’s microblogging. Dayre (they claim that it’s pronounced as Diary, but it looks more like Dairy to me…) is the new kid on the blog (oops, block).

I signed up some time back, but it’s only in the last few days that I have actually got around to play a little with it.  I’m busy enough with wordpress blog, facebook, twitter, pininterest, I don’t have any business signing up with, yet another social media.  But being “itchy fingers” as I am, and the lure of being able to sign up my name before someone takes it, here I am.  With my Dayre page at http://dayre.me/laizhiwei.

Dayre Menu

That’s the menu of Dayre.  You are given the 5 options – word only post, photo, video, cute stickers, location. If a full blog post is daunting to you, then bite sized microblogging is surely easier.  You just post short snippets of your day and Dayre chains them up into a long continuous post for you.  Great for short attention spanned people.. :)

This is what my newsfeed looks like.

Ta-da! The awesomely cute stickers!!

The only problem is, unlike facebook, I can’t find any of my friends… Unless they publish on Facebook that they have Dayre.  They should have a user friendly friend search feature to make it easier to expand the network.  So far, I have one friend following me.  It feels a little like I’m talking to myself and yet, because of the low visibility, it means that it’s a better ranting place than Facebook.

I’ve just discovered another drawback. You can post YouTube videos or links in Dayre. Hope they fix it soon.

Freestyle Drawing

Freestyle Drawing

20131207-195807.jpg

Her doodling on a serviette while we were waiting for our meal to be served.

I love all her freestyle drawings. Untutored, simple, a true reflection of her state of mind. Comparing these to the ones she drew in art class, they look raw but more real. The “art class” pieces were also produced by her but under the guidance of the art teacher who instructed her to draw shapes until they formed pretty pictures. In a way, they were not reflections of her mind, although they were drawn by her.

All the animals and stick people in her freestyle doodles are always smiling. 2 beady eyes and an upward curve for a mouth. She’s a happy child (most of the time). A reflection of her sunny disposition in the doodles.

The 2 animals look like they have the same basic templates, with additionally features. If you haven’t guessed it, the one on top is a camel. The one at the bottom is a giraffe and the stick person is a farmer(?! Don’t ask me why he’s a farmer and not a zoo keeper. That’s what the artist told me. =.=”)

I wonder how her drawings will develop as she grows older. The unknown is exciting, as every child’s potential lies untapped.

Beading for a Friend

Beading for a Friend

Her beading interest started last year. I assembled a beading kit for her Christmas present. But we only do it for special occasions because she takes an awfully long time to complete one.

She’s come a long way from the day she started her first beading project. She’s learnt patterns in school this year and she’s been putting it to practice in her beading. I will still measure out the thread for her.

She plans her own patterns and colours without any prompting from me. She lays them nicely in a row before patiently threading them together.

Her birthday present for her friend. She spent the whole Sunday morning fashioning this. Matching bracelet and necklace. Good enough to sell… Haha… Evil mom thinking of ways to make her daughter pay for her own expenses. Maybe she can make enough to fund her own tertiery education??? Taking orders! :p

Cold Weather Funny Faces

Cold Weather Funny Faces

It is so hard to take decent photos of 宝贝 nowadays. She will not stand still for photo taking. Everything turns out blurry. Or she will stare at all directions but at me and the camera.

Or else she does this…

Blog Discrimination!!

Blog Discrimination!!

Some of my friends link my blog to theirs on the sidebars.

Recently I’ve discovered a strange phenomenon. For Blogger supported blogs, if the linked blog is supported by Blogger too, the link to the latest post gets updated within hours.

Mine is hosted on WordPress. Blogger only updates the link to my latest blog once a week!!!

*tsk tsk*

Just saying….

Bao on the Head!

Bao on the Head!

It was lunchtime. I was trying to mix all the ingredients in the claypot when I turned around…. In time to see my 小小宝贝 hurtle head down from the high chair. He hit his head on the cement floor with a loud thud and food flew everywhere from his full mouth.

I screamed so loudly that the cooks ran out from the restaurant kitchen. He was inert when I picked him up. Then he bawled his lungs out. My first thought was,”damn!! Head concussion!!!” It didn’t help that there was a huge swelling on his forehead. It freaked me out. And he refused to stop crying.

The waiter literally ran to me when I requested for an ice bag. I wrapped it in one of his spare romper and applied it to his head.

Checked for other injuries. None. It was only the huge egg on his head.

His face didn’t turn pale or blue. Checked. No liquid or blood from his ears or nose. Checked. Eyes looked normal to me. Checked. No vomiting. Checked. Whatever I could check, I did.

He finally stopped crying after a long while and fell asleep. That was the longest 30 mins of my life….

Everyone was not in the mood for lunch. I spooned some rice into my mouth. Ok. Enough for me to survive til dinner.

Packed everyone home. Bathed him. Got him to nap.

He woke up. Co ordinated crawling and body movements. Checked. Able to pick up his blocks and bash them on the mat. Checked. Behaved like normal. Checked. Laughed at his sister’s antics. Checked.

A small sigh of relief. Possibility of concussion has diminished. Observation for the next 24 hours.

The swelling has gone down a lot at the point when the photo was taken.

A close up of his bua luku.

24 hours was over. Thank goodness.

Next time I’m going to chain him to the chair. All eyes on him, in case he does a “David Copperfield” on us and wriggles out of captivity.

It was one of the longest day in my life!!
