Tiring Out the Destructive Force Part 4

Tiring Out the Destructive Force Part 4

He was left alone while daddy was working and I was going through 姐姐‘s papers.

Hmmm… it’s too quiet… I get worried when it gets too quiet. The last time he went all quiet, I saw water gushing out from the toilet door gap. He flooded his room toilet. 😑

I’d better go up and see what’s left of the living room.

Waaa!! Surprise!!

When gadgets, computers and TVs are removed from the equation, the kid automatically starts playing with the old forgotten toys and board games. It’s good to go gadget free. Looks like his addiction is waning, he’s stopped crying for the computer. 💪🏼

Affordable Art Fair 2014

Affordable Art Fair 2014

I wanted to blog about 小小宝贝 but my phone memory is down to 0mb. Can’t take anymore photos with it. ? So I’m clearing my photo backlog.

Nat gave me 2 tickets to the AAF. Turned out that the person who was supposed to go with me couldn’t make it. Tried asking the people around me.
1. Wanted to go but not in SG or had prior appointment.
2. Eee! Simi Lai eh?! Art fair?? – cultural desert – you know who you are. Don’t want to name you niah!!

So I went there on my own. I used to wander into art galleries (well, pre-children days). Now I hardly have the chance to do that. So I thought I should take a day off. And maybe buy an art piece or two since it’s supposed to be affordable.

But, boy! Was I wrong! I should go to EAAF (extremely affordable art fair) not just AAF. Still out of my budget. ? I still can’t see myself forking out a few grand for a piece of art. I need to work harder and make more money. Nevertheless, I saw some paintings that I liked, some interesting ones and some which left me wondering, huh?! Like that also can?!

IMG_5587.JPG

This was the “huh! Like that also can?!” Expand it on your screen, yes, you are right! It’s made up of Lego figurines! And guess what was the price tag?? A whopping 10 grand!!! I counted. 330 figurines. I’ve already started my Lego figurine collection. Soon I’ll have my $10k art piece framed and hanging on my wall. Cool yah?!

IMG_5496.JPG

This one?? Just kidding. It’s an art piece by 小小宝贝.

IMG_5495.JPG

That’s the little artist hard at work. But… Kid you not! Some pieces really looked like that! I could have it up for sale and market him as the prodigal baby artist and make him work for his education fund.

Or else an abstract piece like this by 宝贝.

Preschooler drawing

Anyway, here are some which I liked or found them interesting.

IMG_5588.JPG

I like round and colourful things. This fits very aptly. Nice right? But I can’t afford it. So I snapped a photo of it for memory’s sake.

IMG_5589.JPG

This interesting dress was made out of a map on the contours of the Himalayas.

IMG_5590.JPG

Robot faces made from tin. Very retro!!

IMG_5591.JPG

That’s the joker on his motorbike. Muahahahah!

IMG_5592.JPG

Abstract looking Big Bird.

What? I like kiddy stuff?? Ok mah! Relieving my childhood!

IMG_5593.JPG

Colourful dog sculpture!

IMG_5594.JPG

Rush hour! Kind of reminded me of raffles place during peak hours. I like the layering of the pieces and the bold red and black colours.

IMG_5595.JPG

I like these 4 paintings depicting famous scenes in Singapore. The paintings were made up of only vertical and horizontal lines. Dabbed to form the images. Cool right? Within my budget but too bad.. Sold by the time I got there. I particularly liked these 2.

IMG_5596.JPG

IMG_5597.JPG

Now this one… I really liked it a lot.

IMG_5598.JPG

It’s a marker drawing with clean lines. The central figure pushed past all obstacles, people to emerge from within. That’s my interpretation. I stood in front of it for the longest time ever. I went off to dutifully cover the grounds and then I came back again. But I couldn’t see myself shelling out 7 grand for that. I took a photo of it and forwarded to hub “nice or not?” “7k leh”

The reply was “you siao arh?! 7k for that?! You come home now! I draw one for you!!” So story over Loh….

Still, I’m looking forward to AAF 2015!

Doraemon Christmas

Doraemon Christmas

Walked past this Christmas tree. Just couldn’t help snapping a picture of it.

My childhood favourite manga and anime. Just makes me happy thinking of it.

Little things that gives joy! Made my day!

The Original Symbols of Chinese Surnames

The Original Symbols of Chinese Surnames

I came across this link on one of my friend’s Facebook posts today. I thought it’s kind of cool!

It shows most, if not all, the original Chinese symbols of our Chinese surnames. It even has an explanation on the origins. I have always been fascinated by this although my Chinese isn’t anywhere near the A1 level (to the despair of my Mom who used to be a Chinese teacher…).

This is my surname 赖. Apparently my clan was made up of super farmers! I think the genes has been greatly diluted over the millenniums. My fingers are far from being green. I’ll just stick to admiring flowers and eating vegetables.

Toilet Humour!

Toilet Humour!

I came across this in a toilet in Manchester, UK. It was stuck on the lid of the toilet bowl.

That’s my shadow there. Haha. The cubicle was just too narrow to avoid that.

That’s a fine English toilet humour there! Lol!

People of Singapore

People of Singapore

People of Singapore – One Face at a Time.

How apt. I stumbled upon this blog when it was cross linked to one of my news tweets.

It’s a blog chronicling the lives of the people who are living in Singapore, from all walks of life.

Ignore all the happiness reports, boring people reports, wealth reports and other trashy reports out there that people like to quote, especially on the social media. This is the real Singapore. These are the people in flesh, forging their lives in Singapore. Real living people define Singapore, not absurd statistical figures from skewed reports that people take as gospel truth.

Ignore even the xenophobic, whiny, social media posts of the minority who make such a racquet that they are assumed to be the majority. (Empty vessels make the most noise. Sorry. Can’t resist taking a jibe at them. Losers!!)

This is the real Singapore, with a face and a heart.

Away from the Crowd – Changi Airport

Away from the Crowd – Changi Airport

Changi airport is one of our favourite haunts. It’s within a short driving distance, air conditioned, spacious, beautiful. In fact I’m really proud of it. I haven’t found any other airport in the world (so far, an indemnity here) that’s grander than it.

Personally, terminal 3 is my favourite terminal. When it rains, 宝贝 can ride her strider at the spacious basement 1 level with ease. The food court has a wide variety of food. If necessary, we can even do grocery shopping at Ntuc. All in one!

The tall ceiling of the halls with its natural lighting and the living green walls give it an airy, spacious feel. It’s really a luxury to have all these features. It’s not as crowded as the other 2 terminals as it currently services fewer flights and airlines.

And yes I hate crowded places. A strange thing to say in a high density living place like Singapore. That’s precisely why I love Changi Airport. It’s one of the few air conditioned uncrowded places left here. Therefore if you want a little getaway from the crowd, just head east!

宝贝 loves to ride on the sky train (yes… She has a mrt fetish too…) so one of our favourite pastimes is to ride on the sky train from one terminal to the other.

Here’s something from the newly renovated terminal 1 (not so new in fact, it’s just that I was so enamoured with terminal 3 that we seldom visit t1.)

It’s called the Kinetic Rain display, made up of beautifully moulded silver blobs that resemble rain drops. They are connected by wires and are constantly moving in various display formations. One can really stare at it the whole day. It has some kind of hypnotic effect. Hehe. 宝贝 wasn’t too impressed by it though. But she, too, spent quite a while staring at it. She was keener to ride her strider and weave through the occasional crowd.

I prefer the kinetic rain display to the moeller thingy (great big motor vane with a huge flower in front) at Terminal 3. :p

Pasir Ris Park – Defunct

Pasir Ris Park – Defunct

6 months ago, we were disappointed to come to a Pasir Ris Park with most of its playground boarded up. We had to make do with whatever was left.

Turn the clock forward. Today we visited Pasir Ris Park again. Since massive condominiums can be constructed within a time frame of 3-4 years, we figured that 6 months should be enough to rebuild a little playground.

Alas…

20121222-232603.jpg

It looked exactly the same as the last time we visited it. If they are not ready to rebuild it, shouldn’t they just let the children have access to it for another 6 months??

Not only that, check this out…

20121222-232844.jpg

Even the swings are missing this time round?!?!

Nparks, why oh why?! When are you going to complete the upgrading??? Condominiums are built faster than your upgrading. Sigh….
