Water Dragon Fengshui for 2012

Water Dragon Fengshui for 2012

Suntec city, convention hall 40something. Smart Property Exhibition 2012. Saturday afternoon.

When an arrow sharp and straight hit me, I knew I had to burn my beautiful Saturday afternoon, working at Suntec City. It’s during this time that I heard an awesome Fengshui analysis for the property outlook for 2012.

Grandmaster Tan : The wealth positions of Singapore lie in the north-east position and (north or south, he was speaking in mandarin and I didn’t quite catch it. But that covers all grounds. :p) north/south-west.

Punggol lies in the north-west position of Singapore. Therefore for this year, the property there will BOOM!!!

Audience : ooooohhhhhh!!

Grandmaster Tan : (with a wise nod) but it’s too late for now. 4 years ago, I predicted this here at the smart exhibition. Ahhh but many people didn’t believe in it. Now all the houses there prices going up very fast!!

Audience : hmmmm… (with regrets)

Earth shaking prediction!!! (or more of the on-the-hindsight) Anyone who’s bought a property in any part of Singapore 4 years back would have made a tidy profit now. Man! I should have gone into this Fengshui business!!!! *rolls eyes*

Ok before Fengshui enthusiasts haul stones at me, I was in a foul mood because I had to work. Zzz

宝贝at Changi Airport

宝贝at Changi Airport

爸爸: 宝贝! Papa is going on the plane to go to India for 5 days. So you must be a good girl and obey mama. Ok?
宝贝:宝贝 is also going on the plane!
爸爸,妈妈: O.o
妈妈:do you have an air ticket? You need one to board the plane.
宝贝:I have!
妈妈:Erm…. Where are you flying to? (expecting her to say Australia)
宝贝: Indonesia! (she proclaimed!)
妈妈: Indonesia?! What are you going to do over there?!
宝贝:shopping!
妈妈,爸爸:=.=”

Oh my goodness! I need to find a rich son-in-law to support her overseas extravaganza!

Pop the Corn AGAIN!

Pop the Corn AGAIN!

I hope I’m not addicted to popcorn! I have been munching more popcorn in these 2 months than I had in the last 5 years!!

It all started from the Cornery popcorn that I ate while watching the Lion King musical at the Marina Bay Sands. Check out my yummy account here. I have been comparing the Garrett popcorn and the Cornery popcorn. I concluded that the Cornery butterscotch popcorn is way superior to the Garrett Caramel popcorn.

I was at Ion Orchard and I chanced upon the Cornery store. One amazing thing – they have a HUGE number of flavors to pick from! Hmmm… what a difficult decision. All look so yummy. I chose the butterscotch (who ever forgets her first love??) and a cheese one.

Cornery Popcorn!

There! My 2 tubs of Butterscotch and Cheese. I still love the butterscotch one! It still tastes WonderLicious! As for the cheese one, I find that it’s not as “well made” as the butterscotch one. The shape for one… it’s not round… And it is not coated evenly, with only one side having a sparse sprinkle of the cheese. You can see that in my photo. The cheese tasted like the snacks that I used to eat as a child. Compared to the Garrett’s one, the Cornery one tastes like it’s out of a snack bag. The Garrett’s one has a full-bodied cheesy taste. It’s nice and round and coated all over.

Verdict : Cheese – Garrett’s has a one up over the Cornery one.

宝贝’s 唐诗lesson

宝贝’s 唐诗lesson

Yep! I’m doing a whole series on 宝贝. She’s been especially chatty and hilarious recently. It’s a wonder how these little minds work. She sees the world from her simple perspective (one track mind) with her own wants being the highest priority in life.

婆婆:宝贝!我们来复习你的唐诗。念静夜诗。

宝贝:静夜诗。李白。床前明月光,我要去playground!! 举头望明月,低头思故乡。

婆婆:(~_~;)

This is her latest hobby, distorting all the mandarin poems to suit her mood of the day… Poor 李白, he must be turning in his grave.

妈妈:宝贝,快!一鼓作气把你的午餐吃完!(still attempting to drum that phrase into her)
宝贝:妈妈!屁股大便!*giggles*
妈妈:那嘴巴呢?
宝贝:嘴巴吃饭 (nom nom nom *makes the eating sound* I swear it sounds like cookie monster!)
妈妈:鼻子呢?
宝贝:(*sniff sniff) 呼~~~~~~吸~~~~~~(Looking exactly like the bunch of old folks who do 气功in front of our window every morning.
妈妈:眼睛呢?
宝贝:^_^ (scrunches her face up in a huge grin with her eyes almost shut) 眼睛用来笑~~~~!(didn’t quite expect this answer but it does sound logical.)
妈妈:那头发呢?
宝贝:拿来玩!(tousles her hair with both hands)
妈妈:(~_~;)舌头呢?
宝贝:(*licks my arm)

Ewwww! Ok end of lesson. I don’t know what she will do next. (~_~;)

爸爸:快把你的午餐吃完!一鼓作气!
宝贝:屁股放屁??
爸爸:不是。一鼓作气就是要很快的,不要停。
宝贝:爸爸,屁股大便!*giggle*
爸爸:(~_~;)

She has been modifying phrases and poems to her own liking….to be continued…

The Christmas Elves are Here!

The Christmas Elves are Here!

The Christmas Elves are here at Tampines 1 (situated just next to Tampines MRT)! See! Even the heartland malls have cool christmas decorations!!

They greet you as you descend the escalator to B1.

The ceiling decorations. Festive red and green balls with golden glitter. They have a video game on the 1st floor with the elves as the theme.  It works like the Wii but no one seemed to be playing at the stations except for 宝贝 and me. We were getting queer looks from the shoppers….

Check out my favourite elf on the right!

T’is the Season to be Jolly!

T’is the Season to be Jolly!

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
in the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
we’re happy tonight,
walking in a winter wonderland.

I love Christmas!! The festive feel, the carols, the decoration… Except that it’s no winter wonderland here. But the strong air-conditioning everywhere kind of makes up for it. What’s lacking is the fluffy white snow!

The streets and malls have started their annual ritual of Christmas dressing up. They have quite outdone themselves this year! Maybe it’s due to their overflowing coffers of the bumper year. I wish it’s my coffer that’s overflowing though. But if you walk down Orchard Road, it’s truly a sight to be behold (minus the ever present traffic snarl).

I’m starting this series featuring Christmas decorations. We are happy to receive any picture of Christmas decoration, be it of your home, your office, the streets or the malls.

Let me kick start it with :

Suntec City!

Candy theme! Kids will love it, why I love it myself! Feels like a section of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory (I was a huge Roald Dahl fan! I still am!)

20111123-223234.jpg

Close ups of the yummy candy bars. (well, as close as I can. It’s only a phone camera and not a dslr)

Little ones on the ceilings.

The finale – Christmas tree!! I still like the huge candy bars dangling from the roof best! I’ve seen grander Christmas trees though.

Stay tuned for more!

Glued to the GoggleBox

Glued to the GoggleBox

The GoggleBox is indeed a fascinating device. People would rather glue their eyes to the flickering screen than to pay attention or communicate with their loved ones.

It’s a weekly ritual that we visit 宝贝’s Ah Ma (grandmother) every sat/sun because that’s the only time she gets to see her. Theoretically she should be showering her with attention in that short 1 hour. But in reality, this happens :

18:30 we appear at the door. Greetings and hugs exchange.
18:35 we start on dinner. 宝贝 drags all the toys from the room and starts playing with them. Her cousin will play with her or if she’s not around, the helper will look over her. While Ah Ma keeps her son updated of the weekly gossips and lamentation.
18:45 we finish dinner. Ah Ma watches 宝贝 play on her own or with her cousin.
19:00 goggle box is switched on and a sappy Taiwanese drama plays. All the aunties are watching it! I simply don’t understand the draw of it. The storyline is so stereotypical and absolutely crappy. Everyone gets drawn in. 宝贝 sneaks a peek once in a while as she’s still under a tv ban at home. I end up playing with her which I really don’t mind. But I’d rather play with her at home where all the appropriate toys are and not having to drag her away from the goggle box ever so often.
19:30 we hang around for another 30 mins and leave for home.

30 mins drive there and 30 mins drive back for 15 mins of interaction and 30 mins of tv watching sounds like a totally bad deal to me. All that time wasted. We could have go for a swim, a walk, whatever!!!

I still can’t understand how a crappy television program can appear to be more interesting than interacting with a bubbly, chatty toddler.

Sunday is coming. Here we go again!! Gah!!!

Curry Chicken and Baguette

Curry Chicken and Baguette

Yesterday I didn’t know about the existence of Valley Point at 491 River Valley Road, but now I’m sitting here, enjoying my lunch, blogging in peace and basking in solitude.

I had a meeting here 2 hours ago at Starbucks. Nowhere to go, as it’s raining lions and wolves outside, I slipped into a little cafe (after checking the prices of the food on the menu. I’m a cheapo yah!) as I wasn’t too keen to eat sandwiches at Starbucks. It’s named Cafe in Action at #01-06. The rest of the patrons looked like they were enjoying their food -a good sign to me.

I ordered a curry chicken with baguette. The baguette was warm and crispy. The curry was spicy but not overly so (great for me as I am, somewhat allergic to spicy food and get a stomach upset after it. I pay dearly for it after every single indulgence.) but for spice lovers you probably wouldn’t like it. It had just the right texture, not too thick nor too thin like some curries that I’ve tried.

Best of all, the cafe was quiet and cozy, great for reading, blogging and simply get away from the hustle and bustle. Run by very friendly aunties, I doubt that I’ll come again though. It cost me a hefty $17.80 cab fare to get here and it’s not in the vicinity of my usual haunts.

But if you are here, give it a try! I’m sure the other stuff on the menu must taste just as yummy.
