Lou Hei 2013! Huat Ah!

Lou Hei 2013! Huat Ah!

Yesterday was the last day of the Chinese New Year. We haven’t had the chance to Lou hei for good luck at all. We were too swamped with the birth of 小小宝贝, the everyday excursions to the polyclinic and hospital, the bouts of illness during that short period, and adjusting to a huge change of routine brought about by him.

We finally Lou Hei-ed yesterday evening!! It’s 宝贝’s first participative Lou hei. She was too “blur” the last 2 years to comprehend what it’s all about.

Check out the young enthusiastic Lou Hei-er!

A Wonderful Start to a Brand New Year 2013

A Wonderful Start to a Brand New Year 2013

This is a momentous day so I must blog about it before it’s over.

I received a surprise bouquet. First one since the one I received for my birthday 4 years back!! He saved a lot of money huh?!

We have decided not to buy flowers on cut throat days e.g. Valentine’s day. Why let the florists earn the extra amount?! May as well give the cash to me. But sigh…. Conveniently, the number of bouquets dwindled to nil.

Anyway, to look on the bright side, it’s a brand new year. A cheery bouquet on 01.01.2013 kickstarts a promising new year. It can double up as a new year’s bouquet, early valentine’s for all I care.

To be grateful for what I have and to cherish them is one of my resolutions for year 2013 and every year after.

Cheers everyone! I’m looking forward to the next few days when I will receive the greatest gift for the year of 2013!! 🙂

Akan datang!!

Mid Autumn Festival 2012 中秋节

Mid Autumn Festival 2012 中秋节

It’s the time of the year when families gather to admire the bright, full moon, eat moon cakes, drink tea, carry lanterns and have fun with riddles. It’s the mid autumn festival, 中秋节.

This is the first year that 宝贝 is more aware of the various fun festivals and is not too “blur” to participate actively in. She has quite a few musical lanterns. Personally I find the music they emit pretty irritating and the least bit traditional. We bought her 3 paper lanterns from the supermarket, some candles and matchsticks.

In preparation for this happy occasion she set off to invite our neighbours’ boys on a lantern carrying escapade at the little park next to our house. The boys couldn’t really say no (although one of them is still in the midst of his psle), to an invitation from a girl.

Gathering at the meeting point…

The boys weren’t quite prepared for the occasion. Luckily we bought 2 extra lanterns.

The 3 of them, happily in the park after the “procession” from our house.

The boys had a go, at lighting the lanterns with matchsticks. Everything’s so automated now that they find using matches a novelty!! =.=” As usual, kids were excited to play with fire.

The highlight of the night was when Bryan’s lantern caught fire. They were squealing and stamping out the lantern on fire.

Check out the burnt lantern.

I still remember the activities that we had when we were kids. Modern kids are so deprived nowadays with over protective parents (me included).

There was a game that we used to play at mid autumn’s festival. Required quite a number of people though. We divided ourselves into two groups. Each person would find a flat piece of rock to stick our candles on. Each group had a base which was a lighted candle. Defenders were sent to guard the base, to make sure that the candle remained lighted throughout the game. The rest were attackers and were tasked to extinguish the candle of the enemies. At the same time we must take care of our own candles to make sure they were not extinguished by the enemies. Once extinguished they could only be lighted up with the base candle. Whoever extinguished the enemy’s base candle wins!!

I assure you it’s really exciting. After all it’s real fire!! And you are surrounded by people who kept attempting to blow your candle out!!

The good old days when kids were allowed to play with fire and real lanterns, instead of playing with toys, masquerading as lanterns which emit irritating music. I miss those beautiful cellophane lanterns of the zodiac signs. The biggest problem is they are especially vulnerable to fire. But they were really beautiful ones. I still remember this awesome dragon lantern that I had, resplendent in its colorful cellophane, paint and glittery, sparkling decoration.

The Christmas Elves are Here!

The Christmas Elves are Here!

The Christmas Elves are here at Tampines 1 (situated just next to Tampines MRT)! See! Even the heartland malls have cool christmas decorations!!

They greet you as you descend the escalator to B1.

The ceiling decorations. Festive red and green balls with golden glitter. They have a video game on the 1st floor with the elves as the theme.  It works like the Wii but no one seemed to be playing at the stations except for 宝贝 and me. We were getting queer looks from the shoppers….

Check out my favourite elf on the right!

T’is the Season to be Jolly!

T’is the Season to be Jolly!

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
in the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
we’re happy tonight,
walking in a winter wonderland.

I love Christmas!! The festive feel, the carols, the decoration… Except that it’s no winter wonderland here. But the strong air-conditioning everywhere kind of makes up for it. What’s lacking is the fluffy white snow!

The streets and malls have started their annual ritual of Christmas dressing up. They have quite outdone themselves this year! Maybe it’s due to their overflowing coffers of the bumper year. I wish it’s my coffer that’s overflowing though. But if you walk down Orchard Road, it’s truly a sight to be behold (minus the ever present traffic snarl).

I’m starting this series featuring Christmas decorations. We are happy to receive any picture of Christmas decoration, be it of your home, your office, the streets or the malls.

Let me kick start it with :

Suntec City!

Candy theme! Kids will love it, why I love it myself! Feels like a section of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory (I was a huge Roald Dahl fan! I still am!)

Close ups of the yummy candy bars. (well, as close as I can. It’s only a phone camera and not a dslr)

Little ones on the ceilings.

The finale – Christmas tree!! I still like the huge candy bars dangling from the roof best! I’ve seen grander Christmas trees though.

Stay tuned for more!
